Wearing the HR Hat

Not every leader has an HR department. Sometimes you’re the coach, the counselor, the compliance officer—and the one ordering birthday cupcakes.
Wearing the HR hat doesn’t mean you have to know it all. It means you care enough to try.
Want to lead well in the people stuff?
• Set clear expectations — so people aren’t guessing what “good” looks like. Clarity is kindness, not control.
• Document what matters — conversations, decisions, and follow-ups. It protects your people and your leadership.
• Listen more than you speak — especially when emotions run high. People want to be heard before they want solutions.
• Don’t wing it — policies, performance issues, and terminations deserve more than gut instinct. Ask for help when you need it.
• Lead with empathy, but keep your backbone — grace and accountability can (and should) coexist.
“Let us not grow weary in doing good…” — Galatians 6:9
You don’t need a title to lead with wisdom. Just a heart that’s willing to serve.
Small seeds. Big impact.
