New Year New Responses

New Year New Responses

The new year doesn’t change leadership — choices do. January doesn’t erase hard conversations, messy processes, or growing pains. But it does give us a chance to reset how we respond. This year let’s choose our responses with intention.

We want to say, “This shouldn’t be this hard.”
So instead we say, “Growth is rarely easy.”

We want to say, “Why can’t they just get it right?”
So instead we say, “How can we lead this better?”

We want to say, “I don’t have time for this.”
So instead we say, “This moment is the work.

We want to say, “This meeting could’ve been an email.”
So instead we say, “What clarity are we actually creating here?”

We want to say, “I’ve said this at least five times.”
So instead we say, “What’s missing in how I'm communicating it?”

We want to say, “Did anyone read the message?”
So instead we say, “How can I make this clearer or simpler?”

We want to say, “We just fixed this.”
So instead we say, “Change takes repetition.”

We want to say, “I do not have the bandwidth for this.”
So instead we say, “What can realistically wait?”

We want to say, “I’ll believe it when I see it.”
So instead we say, “I'll see it when I believe it.”

We want to say, “They should know better.”
So instead we say, “Maybe I can teach it better.

We want to say, “It’s just business.”
So instead we say, “It’s about people.”

We want to say, “I'm fine.
So instead we say, “I could use a minute.”

We want to say, “I’ll handle it myself.
So instead we say, “Let’s do it together.

We want to say, “This isn’t my problem.
So instead we say, “This is my team.”

Leadership in the new year won’t be perfect — but it can be patient, humble, and intentional. Here’s to a year of choosing better words — and becoming better leaders together.

“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” James 1:19

Small seeds. Big impact.
