Correcting with Compassion

Last week
we talked about accountability over time. This week let’s focus on how we
handle the moment with care: Correcting with Compassion.
Correction
isn’t about winning a moment—it’s about shepherding a person.
Great
leaders don’t avoid hard conversations. But they also don’t weaponize them.
Correction
with compassion sounds different. It says:
• “I care enough about you to be honest.”
• “This behavior needs to change—but you are still valued.”
• “Let’s grow from this together.”
Want to
lead this way?
• Check
your posture before you speak. Pray first. Slow down. Ask yourself: Am I
trying to help—or prove a point?
• Be specific and timely. Vague feedback confuses. Delayed feedback
hardens.
• Name the impact. Help them see how the behavior affects others and the
mission.
• Invite ownership. Ask questions before issuing conclusions.
• Stay invested after the conversation. Don’t rush out. Put the phone
down. Listen fully. Schedule the follow-up. Restoration matters more than
relief.
“Speak
the truth in love…” — Ephesians 4:15
Correction
done well doesn’t shrink people. It strengthens them.
Small
seeds. Big impact.
